• Urgent Diagnostic Department (UDD)

At Kindred Hospital Spring, recovery isn’t simply a goal, it’s our mission. The Urgent Diagnostic Department (UDD) is designed to quickly attend to chronically ill patients with severe or significant medical needs. We specialize in caring for chronically ill patients who are experiencing complications with new or worsening symptoms. Our patients are often affected by additional underlying conditions that make it harder to achieve their highest level of recovery.

The Urgent Diagnostic Department (UDD) at Kindred Hospital Spring is designed to provide:

    • Prompt assessment
    • Comprehensive baseline diagnostics
    • Individualized treatment plans

We offer a comfortable setting for our patients and family members without the wait often found in emergency rooms. Our team of physicians, clinicians, therapists and dedicated support staff enables us to focus on a patient’s individualized needs.
Our standard protocol includes STAT labs, chest X-ray, EKG, and UA C&S with additional diagnostics available for determining the appropriate level of care and treatment. We offer a comprehensive approach to patient care, often resulting in a reduction of rehospitalizations.

Examples of the type of acute episodes seen at the Urgent Diagnostic Department at Kindred Hospital Spring may include:

    • Decubitus ulcers, non-healing or worsening wounds, wound dehiscence, failing dermal grafts/flaps
    • Acute on chronic infections, cellulitis, pneumonia (wheezing, crackles, low sats, fever), wound infection, bacteremia, sepsis, osteomyelitis, UTI
    • Acute on chronic COPD exacerbation
    • Altered mental status
    • Completed home IV antibiotics with no improvement
